Volunteers needed for sandbagging in flooded St. Louis area communities

ST. LOUIS (KFTK) updated Wednesday p.m.— With rivers expected to crest this week at record levels, residents across the St. Louis region are anxiously sandbagging to strengthen levees and save their towns from further flood damage.

The following communities need volunteers to aid in flood relief:

  • St. Louis County
    • The County Department of Transportation is sandbagging along the River Des Peres and Gravois Creek in south St. Louis County. Sandbaggers are needed along River City Casino Boulevard and in Lemay at 211 Pardella. 
    • In north St. Louis County, volunteers should go to Bellefountaine Neighbors City Hall; a shuttle will take them to whichever area needs the most help.
  • St. Charles, Mo.
  • Winfield, Mo.
    • Cooke's Gas Station is asking for sandbagging help. Volunteers can arrive anytime after 8 a.m. The gas station is located at 330 E. Main Street. Volunteers are also requested to meet at the Meridian Waste office at 103 Pine St.
  • Hannibal, Mo.
    • Volunteers are needed to help fill sandbags at the Street Department maintenance facility, 701 Warren Barrett Drive, starting at 8 a.m.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and water and must sign in to participate.  More information is available from City Hall, 573-221-0111.
  • Valmeyer, Ill.
    • Volunteers should report to Valmeyer School Parking Lot for bus shuttle to fill area. Do not park at Rock City. Hours: 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5; 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6. Water provided.
