ARIZONA (KFTK) - A man travelling from Mexico to the United States admitted to paying a Guatemalan family the equivelant of $130 to essentially "rent" their 8-year-old son.

According to a federal indictment, Maynor Velasquez Molina said he used the boy to het into the U.S. because he was told it would be “easier to get into the United States with a child.”

Velasquez Molina crossed the border illegally with over 100 migrants in February.

This is not the only time federal agents have uncovered these human trafficking efforts to gain entry into the United States.

Since October 1, 2018, there have been more than 700 fraudulent family cases in the Yuma Sector alone, according to a report.

“This fraud may include the use of forged birth certificates or other fraudulent documents to establish parentage,” ICE officials said.

“Forged or other fraudulent documents are also being used by adult illegal aliens to falsely claim they are minors under the age of 18.”
