(KFTK) — Historical contributions by members of the LGBTQ community will now be included in public school curriculum in Illinois.

Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a bill requiring the inclusion into law over the weekend. The new law ensures that students in Illinois public schools will learn about the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in state and national history.

The law goes into effect July 1, 2020.
