Notable 2020 presidential candidates include 13 Democrats, including one Independent running as a Democrat, and two Republicans. But did you know that there are actually more than 580 candidates, so far?

According to Ballotpedia.org, "a candidate may declare his or her candidacy at any time, but once he or she receives contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000, the candidate must register with the Federal Election Commission with in 15 days."

As of March 4, 2019, the number of presidential candidates registered with the FEC stood at 581:

- 195 Democratic candidates
- 76 Republican candidates
- 20 Libertarian candidates
- 12 Green candidates

And those numbers are probably going to go a lot higher before election day 2020. In 2016, there were more than 1,700 citizens who declared themselves presidential candidates.
