(KFTK) - A veteran's widow is locked in a battle with her Home Owners Association over an American flag painted on the curb of her driveway, which the group feels doesn't fit in with the aesthetic of the retirement community Peoria, Ari.

Back in February, Donna Cordero had hired a company to paint her address on the curb outside her Arizona house. Along with the numbers, they offered to add a decoration, so the 82-year-old chose the stars and stripes to honor her two late husbands who are military veterans.

Two months ago, the HOA informed Cordero that the "picture on your curb numbers must be removed," as it violates "the look" of the neighborhood, according to a report from the Arizona Republic. But Tom Canepa, the HOA's vice president, says the policy also prevents people from "doing things that would not be appropriate."

Cordero isn't backing down, admitting, "I think they are trying to oppress me and I don't like it," adding, "You've got to stand for something or you will fall for nothing and I'm not going to fall for nothing."
