ILLINOIS (KFTK) -- An Illinois bill would tax residents on Netflix and other streaming services, expanding an existing law in Chicago.

The bill would implement the “Video Service Tax Modernization Act” and “Entertainment Tax Fairness Act,” that would create taxes on streaming services

The bill states that users would pay a tax “for the privilege to witness, view, or otherwise enjoy the entertainment.”

The new tax is similar to the "amusement tax" Chicago has implemented and more recently expanded to streaming services like Netflix.
