First positive case of coronavirus in Madison County, IL

"We are likely to see an increase in positive cases in Madison County," officials warned.

WOOD RIVER, IL (KFTK) -- It was announced Tuesday evening that Madison County in Illinois has its first positive case of the coronavirus.

"We have our first positive case of coronavirus in Madison County," officials said.

Officials couldn't release a lot of information about the individual but did say that the patient is a male in his 30s and that he had traveled.

They also made it known that he was in isolation at his home.

Annie Frey of The Annie Frey Show was on the scene and asked about the importance for young people to take this virus seriously.

Madison County officials announced an emergency disaster declaration that will help the county provide resources to combat the virus.

Toni Corona, the Director of Madison County Health Department cautioned the public to practice social distancing and good hygiene.

"We are likely to see an increase in positive cases in Madison County," Corona warned.
