ST. LOUIS (KFTK) - Christmas tree recycling is underway already in St. Louis City, so shouldn't be throwing your old tree into the dumpster or recycling bin.

They can be dropped off at three locations:

Forest Park- Lower Muny Opera parking lot.

O'Fallon Park- West Florissant and Holly, picnic grounds.

Carondelet Park- Grand and Holly Hills, area between gate and recycling containers.

And it's free to drop off a tree - but only real trees. Then the city will grind them up to make mulch for residents.

The recycling sites will be open through January 12.

In St. Louis County there are a few commercial businesses that will recycle your tree, but it costs $1. There's St. Louis Composting in Valley Park, Maryland Heights and Florissant, and Route 66 Landscape Supply Center in Franklin County.
