(KFTK) updated 4:30 p.m. Thursday — Good news for Illinois drivers this weekend: Repairs to southbound I-255 have been CANCELED due to the weather forecast, IDOT said.

Original KFTK reporting:

A heads up for Illinois drivers this weekend: Southbound I-255 is shutting down from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23.

Illinois Department of Transportation Construction Engineer Joel Cumby told partner station KMOX it will be closed in Collinsville at the I-55/70 interchange.

"That will remain closed then until just north of the I-64 interchange down near Caseyville," Cumby said. "All of your I-64 interchange ramps will remain open."

Northbound I-255 will remain open throughout the southbound closure. This is the second and last closure for this stretch of highway. The closure is necessary, according to IDOT, in order to make bridge repairs.
