Wash U ranks among Top 20 colleges in U.S., study reveals

Princeton was ranked No. 1 for the ninth consecutive year.

(KFTK) — Some local universities are getting national recognition in a new ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

The report listed Webster University at No. 17 in the category of Regional Universities Midwest.

In the same category, the University of Illinois-Springfield came in No. 33, and both Fontbonne University and McKendree University tied for the No. 53 spot.

In the National Universities category, Washington University in St. Louis ranked No. 19. Saint Louis University cleared the Top 100 by coming in No. 97.

So you might be wondering, "What's the best college in America?"

The New Jersey-based Ivy League Princeton University took the top spot for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Harvard, Columbia, MIT, and Yale.

Meanwhile, UCLA, UC-Berkeley, and the University of Michigan were named the country's best public universities. 

In its 35th year of ranking colleges, U.S. News & World Report compares institutions across the country that offer at least a bachelor's degree. Schools are divided into 10 categories based on their academic mission and assessed by 15 measures of academic quality and given an overall ranking.
