NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says the Oct. 15 presidential debate in Miami between him and Donald Trump should be scrapped if the president still has COVID-19.

"I’m not sure what President Trump is all about now," Biden told reporters Tuesday. "I don’t know what his status is. I’m looking forward to being able to debate him, but I just hope all the protocols are followed.”

When asked if he feels safe sharing a stage with Trump, Biden said, "Well, uh, I think if he still has COVID, we shouldn’t have a debate."

Trump tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, according to the White House. According to the World Health Organization, "the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease."

Biden said, "I think we were gonna have to follow very strict guidelines. Too many people have been infected. It’s a very serious problem, so I will be guided by the guidelines of the Cleveland Clinic and what the docs say is the right thing to do."

A Biden official subsequently confirmed that he had been tested once on Tuesday, Sunday and twice on Friday. All of the tests were negative.
