Breweries Serve Up Beer for Dogs

October 15, 2018 - 5:01 pm

Just when you thought you'd heard it all, breweries have started making beer for dogs.

As USA Today reports, dog "breweries" have been popping up across America for the past decade, now even in St. Louis.

For Megan Long, who had been in the bar and restaurant business in Houston, Texas, her Good Boy Dog Beer company began as an effort to help her own aging dog with digestion.

She began brewing non-alcoholic beverages that contained nutritious items for dogs like vegetables, meats, turmeric and other spices.

The company's newest beer is Crotch Sniffin' Ale. Dog beers can be found around the country in dog friendly restaurants and bars. Jenny Brown, CEO of Seattle's Bowser Beer, explains the phenomenon like this: "The truth is people love doing things with their dogs. They love including them in everything."

The most recent dog friendly brewery to open in St. Louis is "DogHaus" located formally in the Tropical Liqueurs' Soulard location.
