How to Increase Your Chances of Surviving a House Fire

There's a simple way for you to increase your odds of surviving a fire. 

Closing your bedroom door before you go to sleep is the easiest thing you can do to increase your chances of surviving a fire, according to a decade of research from the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute.

Most fires happen between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., and the more oxygen they have, the faster they spread. There can be up to a 900-degree difference between a room with an open door and a room with a closed door. The research also notes that house fires today are more dangerous than ever because of the increase in synthetic materials used to build homes.

Thirty years ago, you would have had about 17 minutes to escape. Today, you have three minutes.
