PRESS RELEASE-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVEMBER 11, 2018 IS THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMISTICE DAY-THE WAR TO END ALL WARS ENDED.  ALSO IT IS KNOWN AS VETERANS DAY TODAY.

HELP MAKE HISTORY! FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THE READING OF THE FALLEN-WORLD WAR I WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY THE 10TH DISTRICT AMERICAN LEGION.

10th DISTRICT, DEPARTMENT OF MISSOURI AMERICAN LEGION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ST. LOUIS COUNTY PARKS WILL AVOW THE 116,708 AMERICANS WHO DIED DURING WORLD WAR I,  FOLLOWED BY A RING OF A MEMORIAL BELL.

READINGS WILL BE DONE AT 11 READING STATIONS IN SYLVAN SPRINGS PARK AND JEFFERSON BARRACKS PARKS AT HISTORIC LOCATIONS SUCH AS: BEER GARDEN, OLD ORDNANCE ROOM, POWDER MAGAZINE MUSEUM AND ORDNANCE SHELTER.  THE FOUR BRANCHES OF THE MILITARY WILL BE SEGREGATED BY BRANCH WITH US NAVY AND US COAST GUARD AT POWDER MAGAZINE MUSEUM AND OLD ORDNANCE ROOM, US MARINES AT BEER GARDEN AND US ARMY AT ORDNANCE SHELTER SYLVAN SPRINGS.

AN ENTIRE DAY OF EVENTS AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS AND SYLVAN SPRINGS PARK STARTING WITH A MEMORIAL SERVICE IN JEFFERSON BARRACKS NATIONAL CEMETERY CHAPEL AT 0900. 

TO BE FOLLOWED WITH DONUTS DONATED BY AREA BUSINESSES WITH BEVERAGE OUTSIDE THE CHAPEL.

READING OF THE FALLEN-WORLD WAR I BEGINS 11:11 AT THE SITES SYLVAN SPRINGS AND JEFFERSON BARRACKS.   READINGS WILL BE COMPLETED BY EVENING WITH THE LAST READINGS AT SYLVAN SPRINGS.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE READING AND BELL RING.  WE WELCOME GROUPS SUCH AS CHURCHES, BOY SCOUT TROOPS, BUSINESSES, ELKS, OR ANY GROUP TO COME AND HONOR THOSE WHO GAVE ALL IN WORLD WAR I!  BECOME PART OF HISTORY.
