Cato Institute Scholar Charles Silver will be in town on May 20 for an event and presentation about his book, "Overcharged: Why Americans Pay too Much for Healthcare"

"We rely far too heavily on third parties to pay our bills instead of paying them directly," says Silver.

Silver says the Affordable Care Act didn't help the system, "it really continued a bad arrangement that's existed since the mid- 1960s when Medicare and Medicaid came online."

"Prices respond to demand," says Silver, "in our insurance dominated world, people don't pay very much for healthcare when  they receive it."
