"Affirmative Action Perpetuates Negative Stereotypes"

Vijay Jojo Chokal-Ingam Author of Almost Black

The Randy Tobler Show
September 18, 2018 - 5:56 pm

Vijay JoJo Chokal-Ingam Author of Almost Black joins Randy Tobler to discuss his attempts to get into medical schools as an Asian-Indian American vs as an African American.

"As an Asian American I was pretty much toast. I had a very low chance of admission.  Ironically, an African American student with my grades and test scores had a high probability of admission."

Chokal-Ingam's story has a local angle.

"After posing as black I got wait-listed at Washington University.   I got into SLU despite the fact that my 3.1 GPA was dramatically lower than their average of 3.7"
