Florissant Mayor Tim Lowery has had protesters outside of his home after a video was released that shows a Florissant officer appearing to purposely strike a man with his SUV.

Mayor Lowery says he understands that we have a lot of concerns in our community and that people want to be heard. He says he’s been meeting with community groups and clergy and that he’s willing to meet with anyone, he’d just prefer it not be at his home.

Mayor Lowery explains that the video was only recently brought to his attention, and upon viewing, he took immediate action. However, he cautions to allow for due process.

“Any decision we make right now is a knee jerk reaction.”

On defunding police, Mayor Lowery says he can’t imagine a scenario where defunding police is going to improve things. He says we have to let our law enforcement do their jobs and protect our communities and we need to find funding for the extra things that have been put on our police officers. Even protesters and demonstrators will call the police first if they have an incident at their home. To take funding away and take officers off the street isn’t going to help anyone.

“Let’s be calm and get through this event.”
