(KFTK) –  Former Missouri State Senator Jeff Smith's prediction of a big win by Vice President Joe Biden came though on Saturday in South Carolina.  Biden won by nearly 30 points over Senator Bernie Sanders.

Smith also predicted a tough outcome for Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar in the Palmetto State, "it won't be a good day for Amy Klobuchar, I think she'll do very poorly, and won't get any kind of bounce that she needs going into Super Tuesday. I think she'll be out of the race by Wednesday."  Klobuchar picked-up just 3.2 percent of the vote, and dropped out on Monday evening, throwing her support to Biden.  That same night, former candidates Pete Buttigieg and Beto O’Rourke threw their support to the former Vice President.

The author of Mr Smith Goes to Prison was also pessimistic about Senator Elizabeth Warren's chances in the primary, "and it may be down to probably three people a week or so from now."

What happens next?  Smith says, "Warren pulls from both wings of the party.  Warren pulls some votes that would have otherwise gone to [Bernie] Sanders, but she pulls some votes that would have otherwise go to the kind of more center-left candidates.  So I don't think it's as clear of a divide. I think ideologically its easy to say, Bernie and Warren are the 'lefty' candidates, and Biden, Bloomberg, Klobuchar and Pete are the kind of more main-stream candidates."

Smith continued that there is another prism in which to look at the candidates, demographics, "if you look at that perspective, working class vs middle and upper middle class, Bernie is actually competing more with Biden to attract more less likely to be college educated voters.  Wheras Warren, Pete and Bloomberg are really vying for the college-educated slice of the electorate."

"It's not quite as neat as lot of the people who just look at ideologically make it out to be," says Jeff Smith.  Eventually with, "Warren being out of the race, all of her voters won't automatically go to Sanders."
