(KFTK) –  Chris Wallace of Fox News joined Randy to promote his new book, Countdown 1945: The Extraordinary Story of the Atomic Bomb and the 116 Days That Changed the World, a book that Randy enjoyed so much, calling it a "history thriller."

"That's exactly what I wanted to do, was to write a 'history thriller", says Wallace.

Wallace says that there was a lot of tension while decisions were being made about the bomb, from the start of  the Harry S Truman presidency up till  the bomb was dropped, a period of 116 days.

The longtime host of Fox News Sunday says,  "I joke, but its kind of true. The great joy of this book in researching it, and then writing it,  and now talking about it is that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump, whether you like him or don't like him."

Wallace tells Randy that the country seemed a lot more unified in the push to win World War 2, noting that throughout the 2 years of the Manhattan Project, there were no information leaks, "not once did any hint of the Manhattan Project to develop the atom bomb ever leak. Today, if you had 125-thousand people in a program to bake apple pie, by day two, somebody would come out on twitter and say they were a whistleblower."

Randy points out that most of the crew flying the mission on the Enola Gay didn't know that they we flying an atomic bomb.

The commander of the flight, Col Paul Tibbets, "he knew, and a couple of other people knew, but it was a 12-man crew and they literally had to arm the bomb on the plane," because of worries about a plane crash that could cause nuclear explosion which would take out an air base, says Wallace.

"After it's armed, he gets on the intercom and says, 'Gentlemen, we're carrying and atom bomb,' and there were gasps throughout the B-29 Superfortress," says Wallace.
