'We have to create a vision that attracts these businesses back to Missouri, that creates jobs,' says Missouri Senate candidate David Lenihan

"We're not competing against Illinois and Kansas anymore, we're competing against Argentina and Spain and the west coast and east coast," says Dr David Lenihan.

(KFTK) – Dr David Lenihan, an Oakville resident, is running for Missouri's 1st district state senate seat.  He joined Randy to discuss his "vision" for the state.

"How do we create a 'vision' for Missouri and St Louis in particular," asks Lenihan. "Businesses are trying to get out of California, Oregon, Washington, New Jersey, New York and they're looking.  We're not competing against Illinois and Kansas anymore, we're competing against Argentina and Spain and the west coast and east coast."

The CEO of Tiber Health, a network of health science universities, is beginning the process of opening a campus in St Louis, bringing nearly 500 jobs to the region.

"One of the things I want to do in politics is, how do you create a vision? How do you create a system where people can get behind it, just not in Missouri but across the globe, and want to come here and want to invest here.  I think we've not done a very good job with that on kind of a national and global standard. And that's what I've done in business and what I want to do here," says Lenihan.

Lenihan says he embraces Opportunity Zones, a federal district that includes some of North St Louis where capital gains taxes are eliminated for ten years, he says, "thats how you start attracting businesses into communities that have a need. We need to promote that more, we need to promote what St Louis has from an investment perspective."
